Xbox One enthusiasts obviously have access to previous Xbox games. The Xbox one might not see me doing that. The Wii U wasn’t the best, but they nailed this time around the hybrid console concept. The possibility to play the Switch out and about while playing the Switch in bed is a game changer. Sony, on the other hand, has updated the interface, new DualSense controller and 3D audio to boast about. The interface is the same and the controller is very similar to last gen.

Xbox has a quick resume feature for the Xbox Series S and X, but not really there are any other new features to talk about. Xbox is the clear winner in this category. An additional feature is that current generation controllers are compatible.

Xbox One Series X on the other hand is backwards compatible with all previous Xbox games and some have even received free updates. There are several PlayStation 3 games on PS Plus, but the original PlayStation 1 and 2 games are almost impossible to play. The PlayStation 5 at least runs PlayStation 4 games.
I know that there’s Nintendo Switch Online but its a very cheap collection and in the sound of that it doesn’t run quite that well. The Switch isn’t compatible with any old Nintendo games, so they picked up the Wii U back catalogue to clean up the re-releases. Take this one for old games.Īgain, this is a very clear-cut win for Microsoft. Nintendo also has various Mario-like games, Kirby and Luigis Mansion for kids, and non-specific party/family-like games like Mario Party, Mario Kart, Splatoon and Nintendo Switch Sports that those less familiar with video-games will enjoy. Sure Sony has Sackboy and ahem Knack, but I don’t think of any other game for the whole family, which is child friendly or party-friendly. I cannot see any other winner here, but Nintendo and cant see how anyone can argue otherwise. Winner: PlayStation 5? The family is the most fortunate one. Now doesn’t always make sense to buy a new switch, as it sounds like Nintendo will soon release a new console sometime in the coming year and that isn’t clear on whether it’s going to be compatible with current games. Sony also intends to release the PlayStation VR 2 next year, which could give a bit more edge to the PlayStation 5 in terms of futureproofing. It is hard to predict, as no one knows what the future is, but it is probably a strong win to say that Microsoft and Sony are unlikely to release new hardware yet, other than incremental upgrades.
The Xbox Series S is no longer the cheapest next gen console. Day one Xbox exclusives may have the same rights as other third parties games and indies. Most people though, Game Pass is probably the best option when it comes to value. Nintendo games are a lot cheaper, but don’t often offer a significant discount even years later. This would be the best choice for some games. Sony games are obviously the most expensive on release, but usually have a significant discount on them after six-12 months. It is hard to say the best value – depending on the number of games you plan to play, or whether you prefer to play on the first day of the game or to wait for a discount. I tested which system I think performs the best in a variety of categories. The systems have different strengths and weaknesses. I can’t be the one that does not have anything. I think my opinion about console war reflects my own experiences with both PlayStation and Xbox, and in relation to this week’s topic for the Inbox. The three current consoles are evaluated based on value and quality of the game, and, more importantly, but they are not in the highest category?
